Agent Skills
AI coding agents often struggle with Prisma: they generate outdated v6 patterns, hallucinate APIs, and miss breaking changes like ESM-only support and required driver adapters. Prisma Skills fix this by giving your agent accurate, version-specific knowledge it can reference automatically.
Skills are packaged instructions that follow the open Agent Skills format. Once installed, your agent uses them whenever it detects a relevant task, no prompting required.
Prisma ships skills from three places, matched to what you are building:

Prisma ORM ships one skill, prisma-8. It travels inside the @prisma/orm-postgres, @prisma/orm-sqlite, and @prisma/orm-mongo packages, so the copy in your project always describes the version you installed.
Projects scaffolded with create-prisma already have it: the scaffold runs prisma init for you. orm init does not install skills; its only skill work is deleting retired skill directories. To install the skill in an existing project, or to refresh it after adding an agent runtime, use the family-level CLI:

Upgrading is a branch inside prisma-8, not a separate skill. The two flows live in its references/upgrade-app.md and references/upgrade-extension.md, and the per-transition instructions under prisma-8/upgrading/; the version you upgrade to carries the instructions for the transitions leading to it.
If you want the skill without installing the packages, npx skills add prisma/prisma/skills#v<your-version> --skill prisma-8 still reads the repository. That is a fallback: nothing keeps a copy installed that way up to date.
